CARE OF YOUR NEW DECK

WOOD DECKS

WOOD DECK SYSTEMS ARE CONSTRUCTED OF PRESSURE TREATED WOOD. ALTHOUGH PRESSURE TREATED WOOD HAS BEEN SPECIALLY CREATED TO WITHSTAND THE ELEMENTS, IT STILL REQUIRES REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND CARE. CLEANING AND STAINING ARE BOTH VERY IMPORTANT WHEN IT COMES TO EXTENDING THE LIFE OF YOUR DECK. WE RECOMMEND WAITING 30 DAYS BEFORE YOU STAIN OR SEAL YOUR DECK TO ENSURE THE NEW PRESSURE TREATED WOOD IS COMPLETELY DRIED OUT AND WILL ABSORB THE STAIN OR SEAL PROPERLY.

CLEANING

WE RECOMMEND CLEANING YOUR DECK BOTH IN THE SPRING AND FALL. A GOOD STIFF BRUSH AND A DECK WASH REMOVES STAINS AND WASHES AWAY DEAD FIBERS WITHOUT HURTING THE ABILITY OF YOUR DECK TO SOAK UP A NEW STAIN. OR USE A PRESSURE WASHER. HOWEVER, WE DO RECOMMEND HIRING A PROFESSIONAL TO COMPLETE THIS TASK, SO YOU DON'T ACCIDENTALLY STRIP THE SOFT GRAIN OF THE WOOD. IF ANY AREAS OF THE DECK HAVE STARTED TO SPLINTER OR CRACK, SAND THEM DOWN UNTIL A NEW LAYER OF WOOD SHOWS THROUGH.

COMPOSITE DECKS

ALL EXTERIOR BUILDING MATERIALS REQUIRE CLEANING, INCLUDING LOW MAINTENANCE COMPOSITE DECKING.

WE RECOMMEND BASIC CLEANING WITH SOAP AND HOT WATER OR A COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE DECK CLEANER TWICE A YEAR.

ADDITIONALLY, CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING TIPS WHEN CARING FOR YOUR COMPOSITE DECK. NEVER USE SHOVELS OR SHARP EDGES TO REMOVE SNOW AND ICE FROM YOUR DECK. DO NOT STORE GRILLS OR METAL FURNITURE ON DECK, AS THE LEGS CAN LEAVE RUST STAINS. FOR OIL AND GREASE STAINS, SPEEDY CLEAN UP IS THE BEST. THE LONGER THE OIL OR GREASE SITS ON THE SURFACE THE MOST LIKELY IT IS TO SOAK INTO COMPOSITE WOOD FIBERS. MAINTAIN A DECK THAT IS DRY AND CLEAN.
