You’re probably asking yourself…what is a Spigelia? As beautiful as it is, it’s not the easiest plant to obtain and it’s very underutilized. That said, we predict to see it more and more often as people discover this beautiful plant and it’s versatility.

One of the most important attributes of Spigelia is that it grows naturally in both sun and shade. You can find it growing in the wild in wooded areas and along the banks of streams all over the eastern United States.

Little Redhead is a favored variety because of it’s dark red tubular flowers with an interior yellow color. The only request from this plant is that you give it good drainage. It won’t do well in an area where the rain water pools and stands.

And the bonus? It attracts hummingbirds.
