One of the easiest and most rewarding perennials to grow! The award winning ‘Blue Fortune’ is a tremendously long bloomer that produces lavender blue, bottlebrush-like flowers on strong, upright stems from midsummer to early fall. It is useful for adding a spot of color to the garden late in the season when many other plants are finished. It’s foliage smells distinctly like black licorice when crushed, thus its common name, Anise Hyssop.
It’s easily grown in full sun, in average, dry to medium moisture with well-drained soils. It is more tolerant of cold winters and wet soils than other Agastache varieties. Once it is established is a drought, dry soil, and heat tolerant. It provides a bold visual impact in beds and borders, cotta gardens, gravel gardens, butterfly gardens, or Mediterranean gardens over a very long season. It keeps it’s color when a lot of plants are starting to fade. As always, we love a plant that attracts hummingbirds, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators.
It doesn’t self-seed, but you can propagate by division in the spring. It’s a good idea to deadhead the spent flowers because it will promote additional bloom.
