Pumpkin Pie Coneflower is a perennial plant. Throughout the summer, an abundance of lovely semi-double flowers bloom on this lovely coneflower variety. Nectar-rich green cones are surrounded by layers of orange petals. The orange tone fades to pink tones after beginning with more yellow. This sun-loving perennial draws pollinators, and makes a great cut flower, as well.
“Pumpkin Pie” Echinacea will grow to a height of 18 to 24 inches and a width of 14 to 16 inches. USDA climatic zones 4 through 9 are advised to use it. Full sunlight is ideal for the growth of pumpkin pie coneflowers. It will thrive in well-draining soils with average moisture levels.
Water deeply, regularly during the first growing season to establish an extensive root system. Once established, prefers regular water but tolerates periodic drought. Remove spent blooms to prolong flowering season. Prune back old foliage and apply fertilizer in early spring before new growth emerges.
